How to Play

Dehla Pakad (दहला पकड़) is a traditional Indian card game for 2 or 4 players. The game uses a standard 52-card deck and focuses on capturing cards and collecting points through strategic play.

• Each player is dealt 13 cards at the start
• Players take turns playing one card at a time
• The goal is to capture high-value cards and the special Dehla card
• The game continues until all cards are played

Card Ranking

Cards are ranked from highest to lowest:

Trump Declaration

Before play begins, a trump suit is declared:

• The dealer declares the trump suit based on their hand
• Trump cards beat all non-trump cards regardless of rank
• Players must follow suit if possible; otherwise they may play trump
• The highest trump card wins the trick

Dehla (दहला) - The 10 Card

The 10 of any suit is called the Dehla and is the most valuable card in the game:

• Capturing the Dehla: If you play a card that wins the trick containing a Dehla, you capture it
• Covering the Dehla: If another player plays a higher card on your Dehla, they must "cover" it, giving you a chance to recapture
• Successfully capturing the Dehla earns bonus points
• Each team tries to capture as many Dehlas as possible

Kot (Coat) Scoring

Kot refers to the coat card (typically the King or Ace):

• Put on Kot: Playing a high-value card to protect your lead
• Take off Kot: Playing a lower card when you have a comfortable lead to save high cards for later
• Strategic timing of Kot plays is key to winning

Winning Conditions

Points are scored based on:

• Each captured trick: 1 point
• Each captured Dehla (10): 5 bonus points
• Court cards (J, Q, K, A): 1 additional point each
• Capturing the majority of tricks: 5 bonus points

The player or team with the most points at the end wins the game!

Strategy Tips

• Track which high cards have been played
• Protect your Dehlas with high trump cards
• Save your trump cards for critical moments
• Watch your opponents' patterns and adapt
• Communication with your partner (in 4-player mode) is key
• Don't always lead with your strongest card — sometimes patience pays off
